The Brazilian Afropop Movement is a ropeless Carnival group that celebrates the African-Brazilian culture in Brazil. The Afropop was created in 2005 and has gotten the support from great afro carnival groups (Ilê Aiê, Muzenza, Cortejo Afro, Filhos de Gandhy and Malê de Balê) and besides, they are supported by great artists like Gilberto Gil, Daniela Mercury, Lazzo, Roberto Mendes,Virginia Rodrigues, Mariene de Castro among others. “It is a movement that promotes the beauty and the forefather´s richness alongside the contemporanity and embraces all those who believe in the equity of rights. It is the hug between the percussion and the computer” explains Margareth.
Before Carnival, a series of pre-carnival events take place, that has the same name, in Salvador. In each edition, the event usually gathers together around two thousand people and has counted on the participation of some artists like Alcione, Elba Ramalho, Gilberto Gil, Morais Moreira, Saulo Fernandes and Mart’nália, along with the percussion groups and the  Afro Ballet Carnival groups of Bahia.

More than a summer rehearsal, the AfroPop is a great cultural movement promotes photograph exhibition, a venue for new bands gig and style of music, Afro group participation, cultural demonstrations and national guests, as well as activities with NGOs youngsters named as Cultural Loop (Giro Cultural).
